Pictured here are the remains of my dad's old 1950 5 window Chevy truck. My much more mechanically inclined nephew, who lives several thousand miles closer to it than I do, has decided to re-haul this bad boy. Believe it or not, that rust isn't as bad as it looks. I guess they used a much thicker gauge of steel back then.
So after some discussion here's what we can probably expect at first.. LS swap, much much rust removal, wooden bed (probably).....It will be an interesting project.

Awesome. I'd love to do something similar. I've been itching for a similar project, but with a baby on the way and working two jobs, the likelihood of that happening any time soon is slim to none.

Yep. I raise this issue from time to time. With the advent of the Budd steel body in Dodges in the late 20s and shortly thereafter everywhere else, up until the 50s cars were made *fucking heavy-duty*. Stiffness improvements and advancements in sheet metal forming led to a massive diet by the end of the 50s in a comparative sense, because it's hard to do year over year model revisions and minor tweaks when body metal is simple-formed tank armor.

No patina. Back in the day, dad intended to make it a hot rod, but life happened and it fell to the wayside. I think the plan is to make it into something he would have liked.

There's nothing I don't like in this picture. Except for telephone poles. I'm ambivalent towards them.
